FOCUS
Vanessa is committed to addressing determinants of health and disparities within the LGBTTQIA+ community, particularly in Puerto Rico. Her research focuses on biopsychosocial models and intersectional psychology to combat health inequities and stigmas. Vanessa aims to develop affirmative policies and interventions tailored to the unique needs of the community, which faces additional challenges due to intersecting identities. In Puerto Rico, the lack of research on the mental health and wellbeing of this community exacerbates their marginalization. Vanessa’s work seeks to generate actionable solutions that foster health equity, social justice, and dignity for all. She plans to translate evidence-based research into policy changes, advocating for comprehensive care and wellbeing that reflects the realities, identities, and culture of the LGBTTQIA+ community. Her goal is to transform her research into a broader movement for equity and justice in healthcare policy and practice.
