FOCUS
Taylan is dedicated to creating survivor-led mechanisms for healing and justice for trans survivors and preventing gender-based violence against trans people. Trans people are not only more likely to experience violence, but are also more likely to experience compounding traumas and revictimization when seeking support in the aftermath of violence. Drawing on abolitionist principles, Taylan’s research focuses on how healing justice can be used to improve outcomes for trans survivors, as well as support community-level health by focusing on transforming societal conditions to stop violence before it occurs. They are also interested in exploring the experiences of trans survivors of child sexual abuse to better prevention and intervention efforts. Through their work, Taylan aims to mitigate the impacts of violence within trans communities and bolster holistic and survivor-led healing spaces.
