FOCUS
Nevita’s research seeks to explore the impact of trauma and minoritized identity on youth mental health trajectories and identify ways to bridge the treatment gap experienced by youth and families of color. While psychological research has produced effective, evidence-based interventions, many minoritized communities do not receive psychological services due to barriers in treatment access and engagement. Thus, Nevita’s research is rooted in the perspective that access to equitable and effective mental healthcare should be a right, not a privilege, the formula for which occurs at the intersection of psychological research and health policy initiatives. Through her work, Nevita hopes to foster a Culture of Health by engendering a line of communication between psychological researchers and policymakers to disseminate accessible and effective mental health interventions for minoritized youth and families who have experienced trauma.
