FOCUS
Levia Sutton is a nurse anesthetist with nearly two decades of experience. Her extensive clinical practice in high-acuity settings was led by a dedication to caring for people in underserved communities. Levia is driven to examine the root causes of health disparities through a critical analysis of the disparate levels of injury and illness affecting racialized groups in patterned ways. Utilizing the lens of structural vulnerability, Levia intends to examine how systems and social structures function as causal factors in health disparities that disproportionately impact marginalized communities often characterized by high levels of violence and trauma. Levia’s vision for health equity is anchored to her commitment to centering the humanity of the people she serves. Through collaboration and partnership, she intends to co-create sustainable solutions, inform policies designed to mitigate health risks, and foster health equity for historically marginalized communities.
