Juliann Li Verdugo

FOCUS
Culturally responsive research grounded in values of justice and equity can help determine how health policies could better meet the unique needs of underserved individuals. It is well established that racially and economically minoritized groups disproportionately underutilize mental health services in the United States. Juliann is committed to advancing appropriate and effective mental health care among these communities, with an emphasis on Asian, Latin American, and immigrant families impacted by schizophrenia and other severe mental illnesses. Her goal is to expand service provision through community-engaged approaches to improve intervention delivery and effectiveness. Juliann’s research agenda will investigate how mental health treatments can better support marginalized individuals who are excluded from the reach of existing programming, such as through evaluating and developing tailored services that promote expanded and culturally relevant approaches to wellness and health.
