Enmanuel “Manny” Fernandez

FOCUS
Manny aims to revolutionize sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention and care among disproportionately affected populations. Despite advances in STI treatment, testing rates remain suboptimal, particularly in underserved communities. This gap hinders the effective implementation of innovative strategies like doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (Doxy-PEP) for STI exposures. Manny’s research focuses on understanding the complex multilevel factors influencing STI testing behaviors. By identifying barriers and facilitators to testing, his work aims to inform targeted interventions to increase STI testing rates. This research is crucial for maximizing the utilization of Doxy-PEP and other STI prevention strategies. By addressing stigma and improving access to care, his work contributes to broader health equity goals. Ultimately, his research will inform policies and practices that reduce STI transmission rates and improve overall sexual health outcomes in vulnerable populations.
