Aaron aims to create a safer, healthier environment by addressing gun violence in urban regions, a significant public health concern in the United States. In 2020, gun violence led to 19,000 homicides and about 70,000 injuries (CDC, 2022), with African American males from birth to age 34 being disproportionately affected. His research focuses on identifying risk factors contributing to gun violence among African Americans and exploring solutions to mitigate these challenges. Aaron’s research aims to advance health equity by addressing the homicides and injuries affecting African Americans. He envisions his research informing policies, community awareness, and funding opportunities to combat gun violence effectively. Additionally, he aims to challenge the media and entertainment industries to reduce harmful narratives and promote healthier community values.

Starting his career in 2010, Aaron transitioned from engineering to mentoring African American teens in Chicago. Witnessing the profound impact of trauma and gun violence, he pursued a PhD in criminal justice to develop solutions. The HPRS program offers him the skills and mentorship needed to drive meaningful change.
