Andrew’s research focuses on the barriers to healthcare access and utilization of healthcare services, particularly for LGBTQ and racial/ethnic minorities. Understanding how policy can shape the healthcare delivery system is a crucial component in erasing the gap in healthcare coverage and utilization between LGBTQ individuals and their cisgender, heterosexual counterparts. He is particularly interested in unearthing the mechanisms that perpetuate these disparities and what can be done from the healthcare delivery side that can improve the health outcomes of minorities.

Andrew’s experiences as a queer man interacting with the healthcare system as a patient have given him a unique perspective in his research. He has looked at how the passage of the Affordable Care Act has impacted access to healthcare for LGBTQ individuals. He plans on continuing this research agenda to advance health equity.
